At last we've admitted openly to being self confessed travel junkies and wanted to have a last USA hurrah with an extended public transport journey around America. At least an extra 5000+ miles of this journey are due to pressure from AU members, I think you call it advice!

It doesn't really have much of a flow as ideas were plucked out of thin air, plus friends here and there thought we out to visit if we were within 500 miles.

Should start February 2018 and end in early April. We've robbed our savings to do this but already know they're better spent now than when we're immobile sometime in the future, so here's the plan...

London - San Francisco - Seattle (Coast Starlight) - Essex MT Isaak Walton (Empire Builder) - Minneapolis (Empire Builder) - Lawrence, KS (Greyhound) - Kansas City, MO (Greyhound) - Denver (Greyhound) - San Francisco (Californian Zephyr) - Salinas, CA (Amtrak Thruway Bus) - Monterey (Bus) - Salinas (Amtrak Thruway Bus) - San Luis Obispo (Amtrak Thruway Bus) - Van Nuys, CA (Pacific Surfliner) - Los Angeles (local transit) - San Diego (Pacific Surfliner) - Tucson, AZ (Greyhound) - Austin, TX (Texas Eagle) - Memphis, TN (Greyhound) - New Orleans (Greyhound) but may change to the CONO? - Jacksonville, FL (Greyhound) - Miami, FL (Silver Meteor) - London

We're already booked through to Salinas, but if anyone sees a dumb mistake anywhere within the rest of it I would appreciate if you can point it out. The plan is a plan with padding at intervals. If part way through we change it will be because we think it's a good idea at the time. We like the idea of an outline but don't always stick doggedly to it.

This forum has been very good to us, so to try give a little back I'll try hard to write up some form of trip report if possible.

Bob you know you would be most welcome. Greyhounds are like stepping into another world and it's not all bad either, can't we convince you?

Jaime, I rode lots of Buses when when I was in the Navy including a 5 Day/4 Night Marathon from San Diego to New,York City.
Also rode once from Winnipeg,Manitoba to Dallas when the Trains weren't running.

Don't mind short, day trips, but I'm too old for overnite, long haul bus rides.I do like Mega Bus,I ve used it in Texas with Fares, from $1-$5!!! Great deal!!! Make mine Trains, especially in Sleepers for overnights.

Just responded to your PM about your trip to Austin! Jim
