We will have a long layover at Seattle station and again at Chicago. Does anyone have a hotel recommendation for either location?

In Chicago, I have used the Hampton Inn, the Hilton Garden Inn, and the Palmer. I vary because of specials and availability. I use Uber from and to the station. None are very far, in fact I would walk if I didn't have my bags.

In Seattle, I have stayed only in the summer which has horrible pricing and both times for me limited availability. Using my Premiere status I forced a reservation at a Garden Inn both times. Used Uber to/from station. Walked to Pike Market, but used Uber to go up the hill, it was all down hill from the hotel.

Let Trip Advisor and its map feature show you exactly were all the hotels are, their ratings, amenities, photos and rates.

I like to stay at the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle, the only hotel in the city with rooms (and a restaurant) on the waterfront. It is about a mile and a half from King Street Station.

I LOVE The Palmer House (Chicago). Even in the summer, it's reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the Loop.

It's pretty close to the station, and it's on top of several major transit lines (L and bus). It's hard to find a more convenient location for sightseeing if you have a stopover in the city.

The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and the hotel has so much history you can feel it. I've stayed there at least eight times, and I have never had less than a great experience.

If you sign up for the Hilton Honors program (free), you'll receive an email 24 hours in advance of your stay that has a link to a layout of the hotel. You can check-in through that link AND choose your room from the floor plan. I've been able to score "single" rooms that were the size of a studio apartment thanks to the hotel's quirky layout.

Since you've checked in online, this also allows you to bypass the check-in line and go straight to the "Give Me My Key" line. If you download the Hilton app, the desk can give you a Digital Key, which allows you to use your phone to unlock your door instead of carrying a key around. (Though, they do offer a regular card key in addition to the digital key.)

Thanks for the info. We enjoyed our stay there in July and looking forward another stay next year. Pricing was surprisingly good which is what drew us there. I'll have to take advantage of the Honors program which I was signed up for my last stay.

I also LOVE the Palmer House and love the idea of choosing my room. I was there in July and my corner room was gigantic with a fire place.

I had one like that too! It wasn't on a corner, but it was HUGE and had a fireplace. :)

I love that their wallpaper carries that subtle peacock theme, and the crown moldings and old doorknobs... /swoon

Thanks for that info, SarahZ. I've only been there once, but I have an upcoming reservation and I plan to follow the link in the email. (I don't remember getting an email before the first visit, but I probably would not have followed the link, so it would not have been memorable. Perhaps as a reward for not following the link, I scored a room the size of a large walk-in closet.) The Palmer House is especially convenient for the Art Institute.

Since Sarah mentioned Hilton Honors, here is another aspect of the program. Gold status can get the member and a companion in the same room complimentary breakfast at Hilton brand hotels that do not provide breakfast to all customers, such as the Palmer House. If one gets the American Express Surpass card ($75 per year), one is granted Gold status with Hilton Honors. (There are nuances to the program, but that's the broad brush, and I believe it is a good deal if one stays at Hilton or Hilton Garden Inn hotels more than a few times per year but not enough to achieve Gold status without the card.)
