Looks like 98(17) Silver Meteor was involved in an altercation with a pickup truck that drove into its path at a railroad crossing in the vicinity of Jacksonville yesterday. There was one fatality. No one on the train affected, except for the ensuing delay. it is running over 6 hours late.

Separately, for as yet unknown reason the 92(17) Silver Star is stuck short of Hamlet for many hours. It is expected to be running between 5 and 6 hours late.

I suspected as much. Thanks for the info and news article.

So that is three grade crossing hits within 24 hours so far involving three fatalities so far (counting the one of CZ around Lincoln.

To be more specific 91(17) and 97(17) are both more than 3 hours late. 91(18) under 2 hours late and 97(18) is more or less on time or close. 92(18) is less than an hour late. 98(18) is a bit over 3 hours late. And we already know about 98(17) and 92(17).

Signal issues between Trenton and Metropark after the storms went through. Service alert says up to 90 min delays.

Don't forget, 52(17) was additionally delayed when it got caught behind 98(17). As such, 53(18) turned late. Hopefully, it will make up time on the run.

92(19) got another one last night. Trespasser strike just south of Jacksonville with a 2 hour delay.

I was on that train. Mostly slept through it. It was actually in Jacksonville city I am told. It was someone on a bicycle at a grade crossing with working gates. About a mile or two before the sharp left turn towards Amtrak JAX.

Yeah. At the time of the incident we were running almost two hours late for no particular reason apparently.

At least one good thing that came out of it is that I did not have to wake up at 4am to disembark at my destination of Columbia SC. Got in a little after 8am.

Good news, jis, y'all weren't TOO early for the 8/21 festivities in Columbia. Hope y'all had a good time!

This is very sad, indeed. And don't forget the other two Silver incidents near Columbia and in Hinesville at the top of the month.

It's crazy out there. My heart goes out to those involved. :(
