If we had separate CHI-IND-CIN corridor service, no one would care what the schedule of the Cardinal between CHI-CIN was. If we had separate CHI-TOL-CLE corridor service, no one would care what the schedule of the LSL/CL between CHI-TOL-CLE was. The problem is Ohio depends on these trains and these trains alone for their rail service. I'd love to serve both the NEC-CHI/West Coast and Ohio markets but we don't have the equipment to do so. Then it comes down to priorities. IMO the LSL is necessary for CHI-New York and Boston traffic and the CL is necessary for CHI-Washington/Southeast traffic. Sure it seems redundant to have those trains chase each others tails but they do serve very different markets eastbound. That other train isn't necessary for the same purposes so reschedule it to serve Ohio.
I'll always be in favor of a third train going CHI-Michigan-TOL-CLE-PGH-PHL-NYP ("Motown Philly") serving Ohio in daytime hours). All we need is more equipment, South of the Lake fixed, the host railroads approval, and a ton of money, that's all.
