On the mobile version of the forum all we see is "If you get on east-bound Empire Builder at Whitefish, leaving at 7:41,".

I feel like this is the set up for those math problems we all hated in school.

The subject line doesn't actually ask anything at all. Not just on mobile but the full website as well. IP.Board forum software crops the subject line (and does a lot of other inexplicable things) so it's important to review the results when creating a new thread from scratch.

Edited to add: Looks like this was my 8,888th post. Crazy Eights!

Wouldn't be a problem if the train were on time.

Right now it's showing 2h40 late, which puts it into solidly "probably not gonna happen" territory.
I'd put it in "maybe" territory. A few years ago, headed westbound, the train arrived very late--well after 10PM, as I recall. As we boarded our sleeping car (I think at East Glacier), the fabulous SCA Gul a) apologized for being so late, and b) said that dinner was waiting for us in the dining car. We told him thanks, but we'd already eaten. I've since then wondered how he managed to convince the dining car to serve such late-arriving passengers.

We sensibly ate breakfast at the wonderful Whitefish Hampton. Can't recommend it highly enough. Free shuttle, and great staff.

Now on to seeing if we make the connection to the CL in Chicago.

If I remember correctly, the last wait list numbers along with Last Call happened before 9:30A, so if boarding by 9:30 the DC most likely will still seat if you get to the DC by the time the train departs (assuming a 9:30A arrival in Whitefish.
