The California Zephyr due into Chicago later today has the private observation car Promontory Point on the end.  It looks like it was picked up in Omaha.  Amtrak #6 was over three and a half hours late at Agency, Iowa.

Great video. Always enjoy your private varnish updates. What made you conclude the car was picked up in Omaha?

I believe the Promontory Point is based in Omaha, and this train lost forty-four minutes at Omaha.

From the thread title, I thought this was a question about how to visit Promontory Point via Amtrak.

Easy answer: Take the Zephyr to SLC and rent a car!
