Looks more like a car converted into a lounge/business coach. Window arrangement is not indixative of a 10-6 sleeper.

Pacific Bend is one of the Anniversary Train cars (former 10-6 sleeper). Most likely it, at least the sleeper in front and probably the Horizon car behind, were all destined to or from Beech Grove.

I could be wrong but I would think they are coming from the Grove as the last pics I can find of Pacific Bend it is in Phase III. Unless, of course, this isn't Pacific Bend. The numbers are very difficult to make out.

If it is indeed Pacific Bend, why would they have repainted it? They must be using it for something or else they would not have spent the time and money.

The unit of interest is 10405, an unnamed buffer car with modified diaphragms. It is used to seperate single level equipment from Superliners when deadheading to/from Beech Grove. Without it the diaphragms would not match up and could become damaged. In the instance pictured, it was not needed for this purpose, but was sent to Chicago to potentially deadhead any Superliners headed for overhaul tonight. The Viewliner was returning from overhaul. There is a second buffer car, 10404 which wears Phase III.
