Want to take a passenger train to Bend, OR? This may be your only chance until the old Pioneer is restored.

Sounds like a wonderful excursion, but a bit pricey....

I would like to do it "one way", and save on the hotel, shuttle, and other costs involved, but I realize they couldn't sell it the way I want it.

They could only do it that way, if it ran between Portland and another major city, probably....

Sweet trip! In the photos, it looks as if they will have three of the old silver dome cars like I had on the CZ in 1968, when I went west to college.

I would attach a photo of one that was on the rear of my Coast Starlight in 2013, but the uploader does not seem to be working right now.

Jennifer

I'm a "little Old Lady in Tennis Shoes" (LOLITS) from Eastern Oregon. I love to travel by train, though I live way out in the toolies, far from the nearest Amtrak station (Chemult). My station would have been Baker City, but they cancelled the Oregon Pioneer just before I took my first long-distance train trip as an adult. I've taken most trains in the West, but I'm still exploring new routes in the east.

One problem I would have, is if I purchased the pricey 'dome class', and ended up in the Superdome.....not nearly as good for visibility as the shorter domes.  They say in their FAQ;s that you cannot choose your car, but are assigned space....for the price, I would want to be assured....
