The Denver A Line heavy rail train going to the airport hit a van at a grade level crossing in Aurora, CO

At 0340 hrs. A off duty police office, and a flagger was on duty. The gates may or may not be down. The police officer try to stop the van from entering the crossing. The police officer was unable to stop the driver and when the train hit the van he was showered with debris from the impact. The driver of the van did not survive.

So the lack of information was on the gate status is a issue. The flagged and the off duty police officer were look away from the gates toward traffic, so it's unknown.

Bigger issue that the trainset was 4 cars. Not a two car set. So more wheel to trigger the gates and lights.
