I rode on the CS a few times between Emeryville and San Jose, and a few times it cost less than Capitol Corridor. It doesn't any more, but I suppose I could have checked in baggage if I didn't feel like carting it with me. It's possible to check in from Emeryville to Oakland-Jack London. It also sounds like there are a lot of options for a short trip on the Pacific Surfliner.between stations with baggage service.

Los Angeles (LAX) to Van Nuys on #14.(13 Miles).

When we did this on a Points Run (this was before the Metro Lounge opened at LAX) while waiting to catch #4, the Agent said that we were the first ones to Check Luggage to Van Nuys in her 10 years working LAX! (it saved us paying for the $4 per bag storage fee)

Did you check it back to LAX (on an afternoon Surfliner)?

Yep, and the agent at Van Nuys was Shocked!that we were only going to LAX!

I was looking over some schedules. I know the mile markers are a blunt tool, but it looks like Anaheim to Santa Ana is about 5 miles. So is Emeryville to Oakland-Jack London. Vancouver, WA to Portland, OR is 10.

A friend of mine who is mobility impaired has checked a bag a few times on the CS between Salem and Eugene. I'm not sure what the mileage is, but it's a relatively short segment. Most of us would have carried that bag on without thinking twice, but for him it was a very much appreciated amenity. It's a shame Amtrak is cutting back on places where this amenity is offered.

GF and myself used Amtrak's checked luggage to move 6 boxes(iirc) of her old clothes from chicago to St. Louis so our philosophy group in STL could donate them to a women's shelter. We used 21. Since we were already going it was a no brainer when she started talking about taking these boxes to the post office. I advised her we could do this for free on Amtrak. I took the boxes down at 8 am and checked them. We returned with our luggage and road down to Stl in style in a sleeper. At the other end our friends met us and took the boxes and we went to the hotel.
