Saw a train with at least an AMTRAK engine leaving Charlottesville VA on the Cardinal route today heading towards Gordonsville/Orange/Culpepper/DC - wouldn't be a shock if it were Wed, Fri, or Sunday (would have been the Cardinal a few hours late) - any idea what AMTRAK was running today? I was passing over on I-64 so didn't get much of a glimpse at the makeup of the train.

It was the positioning move for the Spencer special this weekend. It should have 3 engines and around 20 cars.

That was the excursion train which did the 'New River Train' excursions between Huntington, WV and Hinton, WV the past two weekends.

It was on it's way to the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC where it will do another pair of excursions this weekend. The engines ran around the train and it followed the Crescent southbound from Charlottesville to Spencer.

The train proceeds to Orange on the BB and onto the double track Southern mainline. The power is cut and run lite to the north end of the double track at Rapidan. The engineer switches ends and the power proceeds south to clear the interlocking at Orange. They then shove back and couple to the train. After a brake test they proceed south on the Southern.

Where in CVS did you see the train. It may be that the train reversed thru the CVS freight yard connection between NS &and BBrRR ? No one has stated the condition of those yard tracks ?

They won't allow us to use the connection.
