I have reservations already booked and now a friend might want to go with me. Can I change my ticket from one pax to an open ticket without penalties or having to pay the current price?

Don't change your ticket. Just have your friend buy the open ticket. She may have to let them know your reservation number.
I have many times offered to let friends come "along for the ride" in my sleeper (those times when Hubby won't join me). Now that it's Guest Rewards 2.0, it won't be practical for me to re-book when one of them finally says yes. I am glad to know this is how it's done!
