Just noticed that Hurricane Matthew is now brewing in the Caribbean, and its long-term forecast shows it making a turn toward Florida sometime Saturday or Sunday.

This coming weekend, I'm booked on the Auto Train...I leave SFA tomorrow, en route to a HS reunion near Philly on Saturday night, with my return AutoTrain trip set to leave LOR the following Monday.

The time I'll be on the southbound AT. Monday into Tuesday, could be when the weather in Florida gets windy and rainy--possibly affecting all travel on any mode of transportation,

I purchased trip insurance when I made my reservation, and I've got the notification system for my smartphone activated, should there be any change in the train's schedule, etc.

Hope I'm not coming home into a mess, but Matthew just grew into a hurricane overnight, per the National Weather Service.

The current ensemble models predict that it will miss Florida completely to the east by a large distance, and even if it gets to Florida it will be after Tuesday. It might make it up there by Thursday or so. As usual there is a huge amount of uncertainty about which way it will go, but less uncertainty about how fast it will get there.

Woo, ensemble models! General public is getting pretty sophisticated these days!

(P.S. EC Ensembles are quite a bit farther west, still).

I'll keep my fingers crossed that Matthew follows the red track on the above map...it looks like i may get some rain, at least (which will be no problem!)

Right now, in my professional opinion, I would not be worried if I were you. We're currently expecting this system to trend out to sea after crossing Hispaniola or perhaps Eastern Cuba.
