This may sound interesting: MBTA is considering possibly buying additional Red Line cars, to be able to only have all-new cars in the Red Line fleet.
This would lead to higher capacity, faster service, more frequent service. Not to mention, it might just increase the comfort for all people riding, in case the new cars actually turn out to have a more attractive design than those 1990s-built ones...
Many might be curious to be able to find out in 2018 how the first of the new cars will be like in revenue service. Some might think that it is unfortunate, that the new cars will not be offering the possibility to walk from one car to the next which is standard in attractive new designs in most subway system in the world today. At least some might hope, that they will still in many other ways offer a much better ride than the current Red Line rolling stock.
Let us see if MBTA actually moves forward with this and decides to not refurbish the cars from the 1990s, but order better, all new ones instead...
MBTA proposal could lead to more business for Springfield rail car manufacturer, but no decisions final yet
