Hey fellow AUers,

Do any of you know what all the new screens around Washington Union Station will be used for?

Currently it looks like they're just advertising Qualcomm, but that may be the vendor installing the systems.

The picture attached below is from the great hall, but there are even larger screens in Randolph hall as well (where the entrance to the boarding gates are).

It would be wonderful to have bigger screens showing departures and arrivals so I am hopeful, but maybe someone here has more info. Otherwise I guess I'll just have to wait and see! ImageUploadedByAmtrak Forum1471718458.082406.jpg

They took out all the seats in the boarding gate area and put in stanchions to form a queue for boarding now. It even has a separate lane at each gate for priority boarding (Select Plus, sleeper, senior, military, etc). I wonder if they'll add more seating to the main hall and try to have people wait there and then go to the gates when it's closer to boarding time like they have done in Chicago. They really do need a departure board in the main ha again though after taking the one down on the old cafe

Agreed. Not having the board that was on the cafe is a shame, but if that was the trade off for a more open main hall I'm ok with it.

The new rope lines for boarding are good as the seating right by the gates got very crowded, but unfortunately they still don't seem to have cut down on the crazy lines that form.

Hopefully new screens with train info on them in the great hall will encourage passengers to use the hall as a waiting room and then go line up when the train is announced.

Hard to call it a waiting room if most people will have to remain standing. Honestly those screens look completely out of place. I wonder if they're slated to carry more videos of cute little civil forfeiture dogs and simplistic fear mongering for xenophobic housewives with nothing better to do than start trouble over some imaginary nonsense.

There are also two panels by the staircase at the ticket counter, and they just build up a huge video board over the walkway between the Starbucks and the police kiosk (just across from the B/C gates.

Hopefully once all of the hardware is built up, they'll "flip the switch" and put up useful data. It'll be a huge improvement over the crappy TV screens.
