VIA Rail is warning passengers of a potential strike on June 13.

See: http://www.viarail.ca/en/collective-bargaining

In most cases, trains already en route will continue to their destination. Of note is that passengers on train #2 that departs Vancouver on June 12 may be stranded in Winnipeg. And passengers on train #693 that departs Winnipeg on June 12 may be stranded in The Pas. (at 2 o'clock in the morning, to boot!)

From Joe Parlin on Facebook: "A heads up to anybody that is planning to travel via Amtrak's Maple Leaf, Adirondack, and Cascades trains to Canada.... best make backup plans.
The union representing most VIA Rail Canada train station and administrative employees, including maintenance centre personnel have called a strike, effective 12:01am, Monday, June 13th. VIA has stated that all train service would be suspended for the duration.
Amtrak is likely going to have to terminate the Maple Leaf (Trains 63/64) at Niagara Falls, NY, since on the Canadian side, VIA Rail train crews run that train. Even though train and engine crews are not in the union that is striking and technically are still on the job, they are certainly not going to cross any picket lines. And as maintenance centre personnel are involved... no trains would be able to roll anyway, Amtrak consists or otherwise, since they would be on the picket lines instead of servicing equipment.
While VIA Rail does not operate the Adirondack or Cascades on the Canadian legs of their journeys, the Adirondack consist will not be able to be serviced in Montreal, and there would be no station personnel working at Montreal or Vancouver to assist passengers if this strike goes on, anyway.
Talks are ongoing, so keep your fingers crossed...."
