Fort Mac Fire: Free Travel on the Canadian

VIA is offering free travel on the Canadian (& connecting trains) east or west of Edmonton to displaced residents. (also including their pets!)

Fort McMurray is about 450km north of Edmonton and about 90,000 residents have been evacuated south due to wild fires that have destroyed at least 1,600 homes.

Well, it certain is "nice" but given the limited schedule and capacity, I suspect relatively few people will end up taking advantage of the offer. WestJet and Air Canada almost certainly provide more seats out of Edmonton in a typical day than VIA provides in an entire month.
