While confirming the name of a restaurant for another discussion, I found that Google Maps no longer labels Chicago Union Station. I hope this is a temporary blip.

That seems true if you ask googlemaps for "Chicago", then zero in on Union Station. However, if you ask for "Union Station Chicago", it locates and labels it.

Not the app, and not asking Google Maps to find it. I mean just looking at the area.

Since my first post, I found that there is a bus icon with the label Union Station. For comparison, look at Saint Paul, or Burlington, or Glenview. These stations are marked with train icon and identified as Amtrak stations. That used to be true for Chicago Union Station, but is not now.

I just tried this--WAS shows up beautifully.

For Chicago, I typed in "Union Station," after which it came up with a red bubble thing, not near any station that I could see. I then hovered over the bus icons, and two icons up from the bubble thing, on Canal Street, is Union Station, as willem found. Not helpful if you are from out of town and want to find the train station!

On the plus side, Lou Mitchell's shows up easily, and clicking on it connects to some terrific pictures of the place--I can see why you all like it!

Harrumph! I'll have you know, opening up that website and seeing all those appetizing dishes made my cheap 75¢ TV dinner taste even more dreadful than it already was! ;)

Compare Washington Union Station to Chicago Union Station. Or just pan over to LaSalle Station or the Ogilvie Transportation Center
Or to any random 'L' station!
I must be too dense. What am I supposed to compare? Washington Union Station has a train icon and Chicago Union Station does not. That was my point.

Ogilvie Transportation Center has a train icon. I wish Chicago Union Station had one, like it used to have. That was my point.

A random L station has an M. I'm not sure what that has to do with this thread.

What am I missing (besides a train icon at Chicago Union Station)?

Have you contacted the folks at Google about this grievous omission? Not sure if anybody here can fix it.

No bug. The OP just didn't zoom in enough.

Without CUS

Zoomed in one more level shows it between Lou's and Willis Tower

If you zoom again, you see the words Union Station.

It was a bug. It's been fixed. I now see it even zoomed pretty far out.

As noted by DoB, the icon had been missing. It was not a zoom issue.

Even now, if one hovers over the restored icon, there is no mention of Amtrak nor of long distance trains. Compare this to Denver, where hovering generates a pop-up window that says Amtrak station-DEN and California Zephyr. (For what it's worth, Washington Union Station also does not mention Amtrak nor long distance trains.) I have no screen shot to illustrate it, but I believe Chicago Union Station used to mention Amtrak.

I don't mean to interfere with Eric308's sleep, and those who don't care about Google Maps can rest easy. Someone who would rather that Amtrak not be marginalized, even on Google Maps, might be more interested.

Once again, and from 1½ days ago, "Have you contacted the folks at Google about this grievous omission? Not sure if anybody here can fix it."

I'm sure many here do indeed care about this, but are powerless to do anything except slobber all over themselves with posts commiserating your plight. Have you availed yourself of the link kindly provided by Devil's Advocate on Post #11?

Please let us know what you find out from Google.

Just looked now, and the box that pops up when your click on the icon does mention Amtrak, giving Amtrak.com as the station's website. It's also showing Amtrak as well as Metra trains in the list of "Trains from this station" in the next hour or two. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Union+Station/@41.8786741,-87.6490867,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x880e2c8dbbb32f5d:0x5f985dc0044b1109?hl=en

Right you are...just clink on the link at the bottom of the list on the left of the google map page.
