Hello, I am Constanceb52. I am a retired Stewardess of 30 plus years. I have seen this planet from thirty five feet above and now desire to see it from the ground. The tapestry view from above was amazing, watching the designs created by nature and man change at their boarders of connection.

In March 2016 I will be clearing my apartment to travel on the train. I am currently studying the system and how it works, process and procedures and the lingo. Truth be known I wanted to just board the train and live on it, with no particular destination, however, through my research, as well as, making an offer to Amtrak, only to learn it was not possible for approval.

I am in the process of creating my routes, noting places to disembark for layovers, as well as, getting the best price that would include a roomette. Being a woman of seniority, traveling alone, I would like space to retreat for writing, mediation etc. It was recommended that I go through the 'Vacations Dept' vs doing a 'US Rail Pass" I put in a call today, lines were busy and the offer for a call back was accepted, however, have not heard back.

To better assist me with creating my segments, I have sought out the times of each segment for a better idea of time frame for scheduling, to no avail. I look forward to learning from those of experience through this connection. Thank you for your time.

You want to get rid of your stuff and just live on a train, but Amtrak disapproves?

Did I get that correct?

Eagerly awaiting responses from those more knowledgeable than I am.

Best of luck.

Oh, and when you say "I would like space to retreat for writing, mediation , etc"

I'm guessing you mean 'meditation'?

Welcome aboard AU! :hi:

If you have any questions, please do not hesttate to ask. Someone will be glad to provide you with an answer.

You may want to check amsnag.net to get an idea on the best dates and/or times for the lowest fares. Note that the train on the 15th may or not be the same fare as the trains on the 14th or 16th. Likewise, the 5 pm train may or nay not cost the same as the 2 pm train.

Thank you for the welcome.

I have learned the process to determine, actual length of time, as well as, pricing, I understand your explanation written. Finding myself wanting a large paper map of the system, instead of the internet maps...old school thinking:>) It is coming together. Look forward to continued connections with those of like minds.

How were you thinking you could "live" on the train? How would you live on a cruise ship?
Riding the life on the tracks, observing operations, meeting those in the career, swapping stories from both perspectives, sky to the ground. As a traveler, opportunity to meet those that offer shelter, within their private space to travelers. A great enhancement to traveling for sure.

There is a woman that lives on a cruise ship. I am unaware of the set up, however her story was, that of, her life with her late husband; they both enjoyed cruises, and spent most of their lives one many. So she liquidated and now resides on a cruise ship.

Through the internet highway, we are able to share our stories and ventures in real time, connecting with many around the world, of like minds. Being that of a journal keeper, becoming a 'blogger keeper' , only enhances ones life path journey with joy, love, peace and harmony, because of this Opportunity to share in real time,. People Need People.

I am at a turning point in my life path journey. My purposes of past paths traveled, are completed for their purposes. I now take the path journey for self purpose, being that of mindful awareness with spiritual soul, being opened for life force energy to flow, allowing me to grow to be the woman I am to be.

Routes to include Sleeper

What I was really asking is how does one living on a cruise ship handle the time between arrival at the terminus port and the next departure?

To "live" on Amtrak, you would need to be a "bag lady" as you will need to get off trains when they reach their terminus stations. You won't be able to leave stuff in your room as the car you were in may not in the consist of the next train you take.

Here's a far-out suggestion, I suppose. There's a group of private rail car owners, and some private rail cars have a lounge area, dining area with kitchen, and sleeping area. If you're a lady of "means" you might consider buying a private rail car which is Amtrak-certified, then when you wish, move around the country on the back of Amtrak trains.

This seems to be about the best solution. a private rail car can cost upwards of $300,000 but if that is your dream then go for it.

I was under the impression that a private rail car with the proper documentation to be hauled by Amtrak would be significantly more than $300,000, and that's before some hefty fees for being hauled. Was I overestimating?

The $300000 figure is from recent searches for cars for sale. That is only the purchase price, not any haulage fees or other formalities.

I am building the routes with layovers, as well as, places of interest.

The reference 'bag lady' is an interesting, comment.

Not looking at being a bag lady :.) When I exit, my belongings will exit with me.

The story continues.

The story read that the Lady just cruises on one ship and she goes where it goes, I believe it was one she and her late husband traveled on, and it was their favorite. Sweet story for sure. She mingles with all, and not sure everyone doesn't think she is a passenger, just like them.

Not hardly the plan for sure.
