He might be the only contender with the Bona Fides to accomplish anything as Amtrak President. But being President of Amtrak may be even more of a challenge than being POTUS. Does he really want to wade into that swamp full of crocodiles & other pestilences?

That or Secretary of State! Joe is not ready to retire to Wilmington or become a K Street Lobbyist!

Possibly he could even commute in Beech Grove like he did on Metroliners and Acela when he was a Senator from Delaware for over 30 years, hence the nickname of Amtrak Joe.

Knowing what little I do of Biden, I think he'd rather go into that swamp than retire. This is a guy who knows nothing but politics...he's been in office since (I believe) he was 27/28. I think he'd do it and somehow enjoy it.

Well, maybe!

Honestly, Biden has a mediocre record on a lot of things, but on transportation, he has a sterling record. Here's hoping he does become Amtrak President or Secretary of Transportation or something similar.

I thought that with Joe's likeable nature and experience, he would be the strongest nominee to run on the Democratic ticket, but apparently he disagrees. We can speculate about Joe Bidens future but as one who is familiar with the political establishment; it is likely that we will see him active in the Washington establishment but in some small capacity.

Judging from past history, presidents and vice presidents usually do not accept new political appointments or run for office again after their term is up. My guess is that Joe will become a lobbyist, join a law firm or fade into returement. Joe would be great as NARP president or spokesperson but IMO this is very unlikely to happen.

IMO the new president will be Hillary who may be pro-Amtrak status quo, or Trump that will use Wall Street to buy and transform Amtrak into a new business venture.

I think he is still dealing with the grief from his son's death (it was less than 6 months ago).

When he has had more time to heal, I think we will see him again. Just not sure where.
