Looks as though I may be taking my trip, after all!!! I'll be flying to ABQ & will have about 3 hours to kill. Then the next morning, I'll arrive in LAX to connect to the Pacific Surfliner to SAN & back to LAX to catch that nites TE.

Question: Anyone have ideas about places to eat close to these 3 stations? ( I know about Phillipes)

I am familiar with ABQ. What is your price point? There are a fair number of upscale places around the station. If you are looking for something cheap, that is harder.

There is pretty good bus service along Central Ave., so if your plane makes good time, you might expand your options that way, if you feel safe riding the bus.

San Diego has tons of eating places downtown around the waterfront and the Old Santa Fe Depot. Since it became a touristy resort type city instead of a Navy Town, most aren't cheap but the food is good! The Sea Food joints are probably best!

As for LAX, Olvera Street in front of Union Station has a few real Mexican Mom.and Pop type places and China Town is there also with some Authentic Asian food.

There are lots of Delis downtown on Spring and Broadway Sts. ( go under I-10 towards the "downtown") as well as the International Marrket close to Pershing Square. ( Red Line right out of Union Station)

Union station itself has Traxx, an upscale White Table Cloth Cafe with really good food with Movie Star prices.

Sorry, can't help with ABQ, Google up some places close to the Intermodel Station and check em out.

Not familiar with ABQ, but those #66 buses are frequent and cheap, and safe. In May 2014, I found a good range from cheap to moderate both west near Old Town and east near the University - I had 3 days and just wandered near those two areas until I found pretty good food -- Indian, if I recall, and local specialties.

Phillipe's is a must if you haven't been there. Chinatown is close to Union Station, a short walk, or you could take the Gold Line one stop from Union Station.

The Plum Tree Inn is good. http://www.plumtreeinn.com/If you want more Chinese chinese food Sam Woo's is good. http://losangeles.menupages.com/restaurants/san-woo-bar-b-que/

If you have enough time the Grand Central Market has variety, to say the least. http://www.grandcentralmarket.com/And Clifton's Cafeteria just reopened. http://www.cliftonsla.com/

The last two are rumored to have been hipsterized, so beware.

Yeah, is definitely worth traveling a bit east to University/Nob Hill, or west to old town to find better dining options.

I agree that the #66 is safe, as are its express counterparts the 766 and 777. I ride them every day. If just trying to give a subtle warning, because I know a lot of visitors (my parents for instance) are shocked by the amount of alcoholism you encounter along Central. Of course sometimes drunk people get aggressive, so I would say you don't feel as safe as you do riding a bus in, say, Brooklyn.
