As many know, my former travel companion, The Tejanita, and I have broken up. We enjoyed some excellent adventures on Amtrak together, and those memories will always have a place in my mind and heart.

But, now it is time to move on.....the new g/f and I are looking to schedule a points trip before the zone boundary plan ceases to exist. This is because the new scheme will be a huge increase in points for us here in North Central Texas to travel over any large distance.

I think I would like for her to enjoy both a Superliner sleeper and a Viewliner sleeper on the trip, and since here in Texas all trips originate in a Superliner, we would, by necessity, be needing to go to Chicago first and then easterly from there, unless we chose to go to SAS, HOU and NOL, which would take a lot of time to go a relatively short distance, before going easterly from NOL. Of course, doing both Superliner and Viewliner is not a requirement, just an aspiration.

I am seeking advice on route(s) to go on. Want to spend up to 50k points, would not necessarily need it to be round trip, we could fly one direction, and do not want to do a route I have been on with the Tejanita, (CS, EB, LSL) as that would be awkward.

Thanking all of you in advance for ideas, suggestions and advice!

NOTE TO MODS: Thanks for moving to a different thread. I was debating which to put it in, and as usual chose wrong!

The TE connects with the CL same day. CL has some beautiful views in the morning starting with daylight. The CL can connect same day to the Crescent in WAS to NOL, then back home from there.

Tony: how about the Eagle #22 to CHI/CONO #59 to NOL/( 1_Zone Award) spend a couple of days/ Crescent #20 ( Viewliner) to New York/( 2 Zones) Cardinal #51 ( Viewliner) to CHI or Pennsylvanian #43( Biz Class)/Cap Ltd. #29 to CHI/Eagle#21 to DFW( 2 Zone Award)?

Great Cities, CHI,NOL,WAS,NY on this Route,!

Not enough time. :(

If you don't want to take the LSL, and you want to take a Viewliner, and you're starting in Texas, your choices are the Cardinal (TE/Cardinal), the Crescent (Sunset Limited/Crescent), or something via the Cap (TE/CL to Silvers or Crescent). Unfortunately the first two options involve a three-a-week train which is a pain for scheduling.

Avoiding the LSL puts a crimp in planning. Honestly I would take the LSL if I were you, but I don't have the same ex-girlfriend situation.
