There is a photo postd on Facebook now which shows and Amfleet car way off the tracks pointing down an embankment into the shrubs.

Engine and five cars derailed, two down off the embankment partially.

JIS : you mention Facebook several times...never saying which Amtrak group or giving us a link.

I tend not to give Facebook links since I cannot guarantee that anyone from the general public can actually see the material that I can see from my friend's posts there. All that happens is I then have to fend multiple complaints about not being able to see stuff at the end of the link. So I have a policy never to give Facebook links unless I can know for sure that everyone can see it. And that I can seldom ascertain with any certainty. So that is life.

I just put Amtrak in the search box on Facebook and every post that mentions Amtrak comes up. A lot of good photos too by regular people....

the only coach that went down the embankment was one that only had the Conductor in it, apparently no passengers.
Actually there are two coaches that have gone down the embankment one on each side. One is totally detached from anything else, the first car of the train and the other has one end of it on the track and the other end down the embankment, the second car of the train. The engine is lying on its side way off the track and the embankment in the brushes..

I was on yesterday's northbound 54. IINM 82716 was first, 82700 second. If the cars are in the order I remember, the 82716 (first car) is the one dangling, 82700 (the second) is the one visible hanging off the edge a bit. I believe the second car mentioned as having gone off the embankment is in fact engine 102.

Perhaps they added a car in NH, but I doubt it.

photo of a view from the inside. Instagram poster gave permission for anyone to use the photo as long as credits were given.

I would have been on today's SB Vermonter had I gone home last weekend, but I changed plans last week. Very thankful there were no fatalities today, and hope the Vermonter can get back to routine service soon since this is the best time of the year to see Vermont by train.

This is the "Vermonter", a once-a-day train that runs between Washington, DC and St. Albans in northern Vermont.

Northbound leaves DC around 8AM and southbound leaves Saint Albans, VT around 9AM. Times vary a bit between weekdays and weekends. Running time is about 13 hours over 605 miles.

Not to be knit-picky, Any reason the Vermonter can't be turned in White River Junction (I know there's a rail yard there and the tourist operation) since it is yet again pushed back to SPG for at least the next 2 days? I guess where would the crew spend the night, ect. is an issue.

I do not think there is a wye in service there. Possibly trackage remains if they were to use the spur towards the west, but that trackage is so little used I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't safe/legal to put passenger equipment on it.
