As of today, the Amtrak web site says that service animals are allowed onboard all trains with restrictions, and pets are allowed aboard select trains with purchase of a ticket for the pet. Those select trains are the 380- and 390-series trains in illinois.

The restrictions are described in detail in the "Accessible Travel Services" section of the full Amtrak website.

Yes. But that isn't the same thing as what is in the news article. The question is when can pets ride nationwide, etc.

Given the pressure from Congress, the Illinois "experiment" will undoubtedly be rolled out to the other "corridor" trains nationwide -- the only question is when.

Forgive me if this has been discussed elsewhere, but what do people who have allergies to pet hair do when a furry friend comes down the aisle on a leash or in someone's arms? Seems to be a conflictual situation.
