I was with my son who has several health issues and a kidney transplant recipient. Yesterday our train was 5hrs delayed. Our departed time was 12:42 the train didn't come until 5:15. Once we got on the train we were told where to sit which is BS after waiting 5hr they are going to complain that we are sitting in the wrong seat?! Give me a break! The the food lounge didn't open at all, so after waiting that long and nowhere to give my son food at the station the train came and the food lounge car wasn't going to open at all! The workers were rude, i asked for water for my son for his meds and they told me I will see what I can do?! In my mind I was like see what you can do?! If I don't get water for my son considering the lounge car is never going to open and I can't get water all hell will break loose on the train. So the worker came and I demanded water for my son, a little while later he drops it on my lap so no one can see him giving me water for my son! As if he was handing me something illegal and the worker ran. How pathetic is that. Then in the middle of the ride we were told they have to split the trains and do routine electrical work. In the middle of no where the train shuts off no light no ac no electricity for 45min!!! Didn't get home until 11:30pm. I felt like I was held prisoner on this

Train...Amtrak is the worse!!!!!!

Does anyone know which train this was? The electrical makes me think it was a Regional Train changing power at DC?

The no-food service seems like a major issue unless there was something wrong with that car and maybe that's what caused the delays?

(or was this a train that even offered food?)

I was wondering if it was the LSL, TE/SL, or EB. Need to look up the time tables for a 12:42 departure.

When I first read the comment, I thought since the train was five hours late, it had run out of food. That has happened to me on the LSL and we went into NYC with nothing but cheese and crackers and no drinks of any type. Lots of bitterness on that trip as the cheese and crackers finally ran out too! Only a guess, however.

Five hours late: sure sounds like the EB or CZ. #5 was 5+ hrs late out of LNK, though that is suppose to be 12:58 not 12:42... and it would make sense that nothing is open at that hour... though one can always get water downstairs outside of the bathrooms, and in the lounge car at any hour.

... and looking through the various schedules, I'm not finding a 12:42 am nor pm... what am I overlooking? Has anyone found a 12:42, and running 5+ hrs late within the last week to 10 days?

Very likely it was the LSL, 48/448(27), boarding at Utica (scheduled 12:42, actual 5:05). The description would also fit the split at ALB (48 arrival 6:58?, 448(28) departure 7:35).

The only consolation I can offer the OP is that 48(26) departed UCA at 7:16 and 48(28) departed UCA at 11:37, roughly 11 hours late. She is fortunate to have traveled when she did, and not a day earlier or later.

ahhhhh yes. Good research...

for what it's worth Amtrak DID put out a service advisory saying they were expecting late LSL's due to track work... I was working up in Erie and thinking of taking the train to NYC this week and saw the advisory and decided against that. So Amtrak was warning passengers about the schedule.

But if Amtrak knew about the delays they should have been stocking extra food... so that actually makes that part worse.. if Amtrak knew about it... they should have done something. Does Amtrak not pass out the snack packs on late trains now? (the goldfish crackers, almonds, and little bottle of water?). That would have made a big difference in this case.

If a passenger has a very specific need to accommodate a travel companion with medical needs, I would find it important enough to carry those necessities with me. You only need a few ounces to take meds. The water on Amtrak is potable, too.

I am empathetic to the OP's concern of a five hour delay. That's enough to rattle anyone. Certainly worth approaching Customer Relations about for a voucher.

But no one riding in coach is entitled to free bottled water - even those with disabilities.

I certainly don't mean to sound harsh, but it is not Amtrak's responsibility to medically care for its passengers.

Unfortunately, this is not that uncommon with Amtrak. Both the delays and the unprofessional conduct of the staff.

As we can see from the poster above, some fellow riders are even more heartless.

Until Amtrak begins to act with both heart and head, passenger rail in the United States of America will be doomed.

Didn't see anything heartless about Venture Forth's comment. Were you talking of another further above?
