I have just been informed that P42DC AMTK 176 is sitting in the BNSF yard at Ottumwa, Iowa right now. It has plywood in place of the front windows. Anyone know if this unit has been an accident? Turns out 176 was left there yesterday by Amtrak #6(20).

It certainly looks like it was in an accident. Amtrak get into enough grade crossing collisions, that many don't get reported on here.

It's just the next phase in the cutbacks... glass is expensive!

176 was reported to have been picked up by a BNSF freight last night to Galesburg, Illinois. There, it will probably be put on another train to continue going east. I'm guessing a problem developed that required it to be set out at Ottumwa. I would probably know for sure why it was set out if I could have listened in on what was being said over the radio, but my radio scanner wasn't working that day (it's not working today either and I have no idea why).
