Has anyone used redcap service in Chicago for an outbound train? If we pull up in a taxi, can they meet us there and then take us directly to our sleeper if it's already boarding? And if it's not yet boarding and we have to wait in the Met lounge, how does it work getting the luggage to the train then? Thank you.

I don't know about getting to the train/lounge from the street, but from the lounge to the train, just tell the agents at the desk that you want a red cap.

Red Caps are not able to assist you from curbside to the Metro Lounge in Union Station but as was said, soon as you enter the Lounge and check in let the attendant know you will want a Red Cap to the Train!

You can " Day Check" your luggage in the Room across from the desk in the Lounge ( tips are customary) but you will have to claim it before your Train boards, then the Red Cap will take you to their Cart outside the fromt doot to the Lounge! Announcements are made by the Lounge Attendant!

A hint - retrieve your bags as soon as you hear any announcements for the train. Then, once your tickets have been collected (usually at the Lounge counter), go stand by the sliding entrance doors to the lounge. That's where the redcaps expect to find customers. Standing anywhere else will lead to delays (at best). FWIW, I generally give $5 red cap tip. Red caps are well worth the $5, maybe more.

We pulled up in a taxi a few years back with lots of luggage. I sought out a red cap and he was spectacular. He took our luggage, placed it on a gator (hefty golf cart), waited while we did our check-ins and took care of our checked luggage, drove us right to the door of our car. The best $20 I ever spent on a tip.
