We were riding CL29 last night and on our arrival in Pittsburgh, I was greeted with a 20ish girl with pink and green hair and two miniature schnauzers walking up the steps. She asked where the "club car" was and I directed her to the dining car where the two conductors were sitting. She returned a few minutes later with the two "helper" dogs and they went back downstairs and into the H Room. Our car attendant was not a happy camper but obviously, she had permission to ride to CHI with her friends. Most everyone else was sleeping in our 2900 car and we got off in CLE so wondering how the trip went for them. I see that the train continued to lose OTP big time and was over 4 hours late into CHI. Hope the pooper scoopers were handy :p

I know we have discussed dogs on a train ad nauseum, but just thought I would provide an update for those traveling on Amtrak.

For those that need their service animals, so be it; for those that abuse the system: what goes around, comes around.... thankfully.

I had three miniature schnauzers (in sequence). They are best described as a "little furry person with a great personality."

Our first traveled on the National Limited from Dayton to Newark and back, in 1974. Not too long after that, it seems, pets were no longer allowed. Since we used to take the pooch with us when we traveled, it kept us off Amtrak for many years. I hope the pets-on-board experiment in Illinois goes well.

As someone who is exceedingly allergic to cats, I am ambivalent towards the experiment. I want the extra passengers, just not the dander that'll have me sneezing all the way from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Hmmm. I'd vote to keep the dogs and not allow the girl with pink and green hair on the train. But maybe that's just me. :p

...
So was one dog the service dog and the other one was the backup service dog in case the first dog did not do its job? ;)

If they were bulldogs instead, I'd say the 2nd dog was the bullpen! :p

Never heard of carrying spare batteries? :giggle:

It's not the pink and green hair... it's the hair! (Mine suspiciously disappeared years ago.) LOL
