I feel like I already did an intro here, but don't see it - my apologies if I'm just being technologically inept...

I've only taken Amtrak a handful of times - usually JAX to MIA. I've used trains extensively in Europe, though, and honestly would prefer rail to air on any given day. Time is valuable to me, though, so it's only been since I started caring for my father that I've really delved into Amtrak as a primary travel option. Thanks to health issues, flying is difficult if not impossible for him - but I have zero intentions of that limiting his travel to our local area. Amtrak it is! Thanks so much for this valuable resource, I've already learned so much!

In fact, I've got myself booked on several points runs for TQP during an upcoming trip, and I'm pondering cancelling my award flights in order to test out the United codeshare program. Actually, if anyone has any recent personal experience with it, I'm all ears - I see a lot of older and somewhat conflicting info here and all over the internets. I'm chiefly interested in earning gobs of AGR (not TQP, I assume?) without riding or via a credit card.

Anyway, thanks again for such a great community and resource - slainte!

Welcome! :hi: The best way to earn Amtrak Guest Rewards points without the AGR credit card or traveling is the Online Shopping portal on the AGR website. But sometimes it takes weeks to post. The AGR cc is great though. I've earned tens of thousands of points with it and it's helped me earn free travel. Even using the AGR CC in cafe cars gets the double points.

Welcome! :hi:

I echo the thought of using the AGR MasterCard for everything. I charge everything (no matter how large or small) and earn a free trip every year! :) Just be sure to pay the balance in full each month - otherwise the interest rate will reduce your effective benefit. Also just by having the credit card (even if you don't use it), you get a 5% rebate on any award redemptions! :)
