VIA employees are taking over the operation of the Sudbury White River train. Previously the operation of the train had been sub-contracted to Canadian Pacific and was one of the last trains to still have a Conductor. I believe the only other VIA train with a Conductor is the Hudson Bay service. Conductors disappeared from most other VIA trains nearly 20 years ago.

Hmm. I wonder why. CP has previously been resistant to letting passenger operators other than themselves run on their lines, to the point where they still operate one of the GO Transit commuter lines.

Maybe CP was running out of qualified passenger conductors and engineers and didn't want to hire more?
