I just completed an Acela trip BOS>NYP on NTD. Unfortunately my AGR# was not shown on my ticket. I do not know how this happened as I provided my AGR# to Julie when the reservation was made. According to the AGR website a Missing Points Request should not be submitted until three weeks after travel. Is this a steadfast rule? It is obvious I will not get the AGR points so why must one wait three weeks to submit the request?

While the ticket not showing the AGR number is ominous, it is possible that the number is in your record (PNR). If it is, when your ticket is scanned, it will be associated with your PNR, and your points will post normally. For some reason the AGR number does not always print with the ticket. Wait the three weeks, if nothing shows by then, submit the request on-line. If that doesn't work (50-50), then call AGR.

EDIT: One other thought. Since there is a several day lag between your travel and the ticket being processed, you could call Amtrak and have the agent pull-up your PNR. If your AGR number is not in your record, the agent could add it. Then, when your ticket is processed, you would get your points normally.

On this note, I'm anxious to see if the e-ticketing actually results in faster Points postings. Monday last (7 May) I did a RT on the Heartland Flyer just as they cut over to e-ticketing; our tickets were both scanned and pulled that morning and only scanned on the return that evening. So far no Points have posted.

In my experience, if you submit a request prior to three weeks, it will be held and not processed until the three week period has been reached (this is for manual requests, not the automatic request on the AGR page). Keep in mind that you can still call Amtrak reservations and have your AGR number added to your reservation after the fact - as long as they have not processed the ticket yet (very unlikely) you will still get your points when they do.
