Private Rail Cars from Indianapolis to Chicago to benefit the Whitewater Valley Railroad

Reds vs. Cubs at Historic Wrigley Field

Connersville, Indiana -Experience the golden age of rail travel and baseball with a trip aboard historic private railcars. To kick off its 40th celebrations, the non-profit Whitewater Valley Railroad is offering this once in a lifetime trip to a limited number of baseball and railroad fans. It is the first off-line trip ever sponsored by the Whitewater.

Three historic cars once belonging to the New York Central, Pennsylvania and the Northern Pacific railroads will whisk passengers from Indianapolis Union Station to Chicago. Breakfast will be provided on the train. After arriving in style at Chicago Union Station, fans will be taken to the historic Wrigley Field for a baseball game between the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. The trip package include lunch vouchers at Wrigley.

Overnight accommodations will be included along with breakfast on Saturday morning. Following breakfast, the group will spend the day at the Museum of Science and Industry (boxed lunches included). Guests on this trip will have a chance to experience the museum's exhibits and will receive prepaid admission to tour the German U-Boat U-505 on display.

At the end of the day, we're back to Chicago Union Station to board our special train with a scheduled arrival in Indianapolis at 11:50PM. Dinner will be served on the train as we return to Indianapolis.

There are two trip options available for this special excursion. First class in the lounge cars is available for $475 per person based on double occupancy.

A limited number of premium upper level dome seats in the former Northern Pacific car are available for $500 per person based on double occupancy.

This trip will use former New York Central Lounge Car #38, former Pennsylvania Railroad Lounge Braddock Inn, and former Northern Pacific #558 dome coach, The Observatory. The cars will be coupled onto the rear of Amtrak's Hoosier State from Indianapolis and return on the rear of Amtrak's Cardinal.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. More information and tickets are available online at www.whitewatervalleyrr.org or by calling the Whitewater Valley Railroad’s Grand Central Station at 765-825-2054.

Established in 1972, the Whitewater Valley Railroad is a nonprofit railroad history organization. It is an operating railroad museum dedicated to the preservation of a historic branch line railroad, the restoration of railroad equipment, and to the conduct of railroad educational programs. The railroad is operated by volunteers and all proceeds from this event will be used to further the organization’s mission.

Consist Update:

It appears the WVRR is not the only ones going to the game this Friday. Reports are the INRD will be placing the former ATSF lounge and the former ATSF business car behind the three WVRR chartered cars on the Hoosier. It also appears the "Beech Grove" may be on the rear of the train as well. Not sure if anyone will be onboard the car or not. The INRD is supposedly also going to attend the same game that day and return behind the Hoosier that evening.
