Hrmm, not sure if I am going to be able to make it this year. Have you ever thought about changing the weekend? It's my wedding anniversary weekend and I'm not sure I can convince H to travel to Philly with me. Plus its a super busy time at work. I might be able to head down for the day on Saturday and take the 66 home.

We have this happen almost every year. One year we did change the weekend for one AU member who could never come the normal weekend we have it. Then, that member never showed, anyway, so the committee decided we will always leave it the same weekend every year.

And, as Dave mentioned, you can attend as much or little of the events as you want. From where you are located consider bringing your husband and just meet us for the dinner in PHL on Sat night. Get a nice hotel room and have your anniversary in Philadelphia.

Whatever works; the main thing is to attend. Hell, I was on the planning committee from the beginning, and I had to FLY to Chicago for the first Gathering. (Rail ever since, though)

EDIT: Had to depart Gathering II - at Los Angeles - by car; wildfires had forced closure of rail lines and most highways to the north.

When the Gathering was held in BOS - only 90 miles from me - I did not attend Friday, but did Saturday and Sunday!

Not entirely true. Dave met the group at Providence on Friday afternoon - after our Acela speed run - and distributed Rhode Island CHOWDAH!! to all takers before our return to Beanburg aboard an MBTA commuter train.

At the second Gathering - Los Angeles - he did miss Friday (Metrolink to Riverside and Metro Red Line to dinner at Universal CityWalk), then missed the group's Saturday Pacific Surfliner run to San Diego when he left his tickets in his hotel room (he took a later train).

Last Gathering I used a Picture from Long Train Running (Mahalo Stephen). This year I want a picture that I can overlay the names of Gathering Participants. The reason I want to overlay the names is, that I want to use a larger Font. The other reason I am asking for you to submit pictures is that there is no way I can get to Philly myself before the gathering, And My last visit to Philly was so long ago. Some how I don't think a Picture of a GG-1 symbolizes the Gathering, since they are sort of pre-Amtrak. So I guess I am starting a contest. No Prizes beyond the knowledge you are part of the badge.

Without the success of the GG-1, there may not be a northeast corridor as we know it and maybe there would be no Amtrak. The GG-1 revolutionized the railroad industry and Amtrak did run GG-1's for several years. I like being nostalgic though.
