That, of course, was the Nickel Plate 765 on its way to the Train Festival in Rock Island, IL. Whooz on First and Alice have been providing some great coverage of this event elsewhere on Amtrak Unlimited. The locomotive and train should be returning to their Fort Wayne home base today, so be on the lookout.
In our tiny town in central Illinois there are a few places to cross over the tracks. I made the turn to get on one of the streets that crosses. I was hoping I could get across before the lights started flashing. I did - and as I crossed the tracks I looked toward the train and saw the light was different. So I pulled into the store's parking lot to see what it was and watch as it passed. What a great surprise! It was a steam engine pulling Ft. Wayne Historical Railroad passenger cars!

Hmmm - I know what town Everydaymatters lives in and if that train was going from Rock Island to Ft Wayne, it wouldn't go anywhere near her town. Would be like going from Chicago to Boston by way of Los Angeles!

I think this was probably the return trip?
What a thrill! My daughter publishes a weekly newspaper here in town and she got pictures of it. I hope she'll put it in the paper.
Yup! Dave probably did plot the trip. Nothing...and I mean nothing...this exciting ever happens in this town.
