I found a video I made while travelling on the Crescent back in 1994 showing the interior of the entire train along with some exterior shots. Pretty cool video using a wide angle lens. Shows the interior of the Heritage fleet bedroom along with the coach cars, diner car and a much different lounge car than what is used today.

It is on a Video8 analog tape, but I have no clue on how to convert this to a format I can upload to YouTube. This is pretty cool stuff on Amtrak equipment that would be worthwhile in sharing on YouTube, but I do need some help on getting this converted from analog to a digital file.

Any suggestions on where to start?

If you Google 8mm to digital you will get a ton of places such as this ONE (I just picked one and am not recommending this one over any others)

Once you have it converted it will upload to YouTube if you have an account there.

This topic looks like a likely candidate for the Train Photography forum. The path of least resistance - though perhaps not least cost, depending - would be to pay for digital conversion and go from there.

EDIT: Thread was moved as I was posting!

I can convert it to a DVD using my DVD recorder, but those files will not work for YouTube can they?

If you have an 8mm player hooked to your DVD recorder you will get a file that then needs to be run through a video conversion program such as Amerisoft Video Converter. But, there are a ton of them out there. Google it to even find free ones. Then the converted file (AVI, MPEG, etc) will upload to YouTube.

Thanks! That is just what I was looking for :)
