Don't get short changed by AGR

In booking AGR LD trips that have no sleeper service on the final leg I've noticed a common thread with AGR. UNLESS you ask for biz class (such as on a Regional or Surfliner) they automatically put you in coach. I just got off the phone with AGR; I wanted to go NOL to NYP in sleeper class. They wouldn't ticket me unless I got off in Washington and got on a Regional coach. After explaining that the sleeper room would go empty to NYP because it's discharge only to NYP you would have thought that I was trying to get the AGR agent to re-start a nuclear reactor. I finally settled for biz class on the Regional but I think I can con # 20's SCA into letting me stay put to NYP.Haven't had such nonsense since they wanted me to de-train # 20 at Charlottsville and wait for that night's Cardinal to get to NYP

Probably should have tired Amtrak/AGR RULE NUMBER 1
Don't like the answer - hang up and call back and try it with another agent.

This is bizarre Jay, why in the world would they want to take you off #20 and have you hop a Regional? I'm sure that #20s Conductor and SCA will have no problem letting you stay in the EMPTY sleeper to NYP as you say.

ARROW tends to default to making the transfers in DC, rather than NY. I'm not quite sure why, whether that is deliberate or accidental. But it is possible to override it, but it takes someone who knows what they are doing.
And yes, the Biz Class is something that many agents don't automatically do. They used to do it automatically early on in the program, then a change was made that you're supposed to have to ask for it to get it. Some agents still do it automatically, but many do not.

Yeah, if you're just going to New York you're fine; it's when you're booking north of that (say, Orlando to Boston) that the system doggedly refuses to let you stay on the LD train past D.C. and kicks you out to a Regional. It's only northbound; booking it southbound correctly gives you the transfer onto the LD train in New York.

Last week, I booked a sleeper trip from NOL to NYP on the Crescent.
I was able to stay on #20 for the entire length of the trip.
I would find it inconventient to disembark at WAS and then have to
embark on a Regional to NYP. My reservation is paid, not AGR.

Question (vaguely on topic): I'll be going KAL-CHI-LAX-SEA next summer in a roomette (two-zone). Will they put in business class KAL-CHI as part of the two-zone roomette or will I need to book that separately?
Routes traveled: Blue Water, California Zephyr, Capitol Limited, Cardinal, Empire Builder, Hiawatha Service, International Limited, Lake Shore Limited, Northeast Regional, Wolverine. Total miles 13,548+
