For a visual demonstration of the correct method for employing block and tackle in a hoisting situation, see The Music Box, which includes a number of incorrect methods of accomplishing related tasks. Almost 30 minutes, so sit back and enjoy (looks surprisingly good at full screen).I suppose I could rig some block and tackle and hoist Alice aboard one of the cabeese

Quite correct. Unlike KIDS THESE DAYS, my generation, and the ones which preceded it, enjoy attention spans which exceed those of the common fruitfly. Your loss, Dude.Watched the whole thing only laughed out loud once must be a generational thing

But remember he got some of the humor that was what, twice his age, that's good. May I suggest another movie from 1937, Hellzappopin?
Good night

Well somethings I get others I don't what can I say. I was thinking the whole time this Larry Curly and Moe as it felt that they would do a better job with the scence although the editing and "effects" arn't half bad when you consider what they had to work with.

Now and then, usually in the course of computer maintenance, I review links I've posted to see if they're still working. "The Music Box" still works, but is now interrupted at intervals by commercials. No big deal, and the movie proceeds automatically after each ad.That's a classic, I don't think that I ever laughed so hard as I did the first time I saw that years ago. I was probably 16 at the time and had gotten that movie from the library on 16mm film. For a visual demonstration of the correct method for employing block and tackle in a hoisting situation, see The Music Box, which includes a number of incorrect methods of accomplishing related tasks. If you have a couple hours to kill in Pittsburgh, you should visit Primanti Brothers. The original one is located in the strip district and will, I believe, deliver to the station. There open 24 hours and it's a short cab ride if you actually want to go there becasue of it's history. All sandwichwes are served with fries and slaw on the sandwich. I really recommend it since it is probably to Pittsburgh what Cheesesteaks are to Philly.

Hey Chris 1! Thanks for the recommendation and suggestion. The Patrick & Alice RailRiot 2009 actually has enough layover time at Pittsburgh for several quick activities, so I'll have the Executive Assistant look into the Primanti thing.Hey Patrck,

BTW, Dude, and for future reference, history alone doesn't draw me to an eatery. I mean, Mickey D's has a history, but last time I checked had not yet been inducted into the Culinary Hall of Fame.
Let me take this opportunity to remind all our friends who might be thinking about making plans for the Amtrak Unlimited 3rd Annual Gathering that there's no time like the present to do so.
I hear tell that Gathering Registration, like prosperity, is just around the corner. Time marches on, as you can see for yourself by clicking the countdown link in my signature.
Don't delay. Plan TODAY!! Your inner Amtrak fan will thank you.
EDIT: CHOWDAH!!

When the above was posted it was essentially true. Planning is different from locking in reservations, however, and I'm now pleased to report that all Amtrak travel for the Patrick & Alice RailRiot 2009 is accounted for and reserved. It gives me a measure of pleasure to inform everybody who reads this thread - both of you - that planning for the Patrick & Alice RailRiot 2009 is virtually complete. Now all I have to do is keep Alice's wheelchair pointed right. Kinda like a shopping cart with a bum wheel, she always wants to wander off in a different direction.
We had originally planned to hold off reserving the ride from Altoona to Boston for the Gathering, and the ride from New York to Philadelphia for riding behind steam at Strasburg, PA before continuing south to Atlanta on the Crescent. Concern over rising fares caused us to make reservations now.
All RailRiot lodging is in place, though there was a brief scare when the hotel reservation at Boston for the Gathering didn't show up online. A quick call confirmed that all is well.
What remain to be arranged are car rentals at Altoona, Philly, and Atlanta.
On the RailRiot transit front, Alice needs to apply to the MBTA and NYC Transit (possibly SEPTA, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and Chicago as well) to be approved for reduced fare programs. She has questioned the cost/benefit ratio of jumping through application hoops, but it appears that very substantial savings could be in store for making the effort. It's up to her, but I hope she'll go through the various agency processes and tell us about it in order to inform other AU members with similar concerns.

IIRC, MBTA also has a reduced fare program for the senior citizens. Alice - we'll need your expertise in acquiring the reduced fare pass.
Betty,
You'll need to go to Back Bay station on a weekday to get a special pass for Seniors. More info can be found here.
Take care and take trains!

Guess I'm aware of it NOW. HAHA!!Whooz might not know about this yet ...
While I agree that the Horseshoe at Altoona is mandatory, I think it pales in comparison to the SP horseshoe just north of SLO, and can't hold a candle to the one on the Tehachapi route, not to mention the loop. Eastern bias rears its ugly head once again. Nothing beats western railroading.
Thanx RF ( always lookin for a good excuse for a train ride! )

I called MBTA and was told that I could email a digital picture of my self and a digital picture of proof of age and they'd send me the Charlie Card.My senior TAP "Charlie" Card required a photo .
I wonder if a picture of my passport would be ok - it has both the picture and proof of age. Maybe I'll give that a try.
