What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Train 194 running 1hr40min late from DC. ARRRGGHHH!
While I won't take your life I am wondering do you take 194 constantly and are that late or are u planning on taking 194 and to make a close connection?
You seem very upset not only in this thread but a few others about 194 OTP while I may not feel that strongly I do thing that OTP is important but if a train is late I just shurg it off and say hey now I am on the train longer. This of course also depends on how late 1 hour and 40 minutes wouldn't get to me. I'd say after 4 or 5 hours I would start to get slightly annoyed.

If all Amtrak Unlimited folks took my advice and wore a fez when riding, spotting one another would not be a problem. Except maybe in the presence of a gang of Shriners. B)I may have seen you today, along with the thousands of others in Penn Station.

First of all, on Saturday trains run every two hours, so a train out of slot is inconvenient,Why is that you take 194 when you know it's going to be late?
there are a number of other trains that are more likely to be on-time.
Secondly, something is happening on CSX, 194 lost all its time, before Richmond, and 66 was worse - losing 2-1/2 nours before Richmond. 67 is currently 2h 40m late; but then again isn't the Northeast experiencing weather woes?

Wearing a fez could get you more attention that you want. You could try wearing a jacket with the letters ATF (Avid Train Fan) on the back, but that could just get you another visit from Agent Pat... or worse! If all Amtrak Unlimited folks took my advice and wore a fez when riding, spotting one another would not be a problem. Except maybe in the presence of a gang of Shriners. B)I may have seen you today, along with the thousands of others in Penn Station.

Y'know, sky, while it may seem counterintuitive I've never been hassled when sporting the fez. All rail-related run-ins, and there have been several, have occurred while bare-headed.Wearing a fez could get you more attention that you want.
Don't know why, but have noticed that the fez functions as something of an idiot barrier. Open-minded people will come right up and start talking, while the close-minded - who I probably don't wanna deal with anyway - will keep their distance.
On my last northbound Surfliner ride a Red Hat lady had no problem sitting right down next to me and striking up a conversation. She even complimented me on the fez, and naturally I replied that I admired her regalia (they all have different and very individual headwear).
Guess it depends on how one views fellow human beings.
I usually take the positive view, seeing new people as potential friends.
Others, including those who are paid for it, see new people as potential enemies. I'll never understand that view at all.

I applaude you willingness to sport such headress. What a shame it will keep closeminded people with a goodbit of railroad knowledge ( hey, THATS ME ) away. But what the heck, my father beat me as a child so I just can't get past the "don't talk to wierd people" lecture and beatings I received.
Hope you and the lady in red have a great trip.............................I'll be the poor lonely sap snickering about you in the corner.
A "fez" ? really ? why not something more........ummmm ....railroad like ? Hell even the Schriners wear rings and pins so they don't look funny wearing the fez in times other than meetings or driving the bugs in parades. Would that be too much common sense ? I gather so.
Just as you are glad to repell me, I'm glad I don't attract people wearing a fez. In respect to my grandfaters's Shriner " big wig status", I would never want to blimish it with mere railroading.
( now I'm sure you have 10 ways to Sunday to blast me for what I've stated, just remember please, I do respect the people who EARN the fez )
( all in good sport )

While I would not claim to speak for the AU administrators, for me your post poses the question of why you view new people, possibly different from yourself, as enemies, an assertion I made that you did not bother to deny.
And nobody "earns" a fez. Easily available. Got mine cheap, and got one for you too, FREE!
PM your address, and a free fez is yours. My treat.
Come to think of it, since I seem to have a fez overload, I'm gonna pull a Jay (had8ley). He offered free date nails. I'm offereing free fezzes. They wouldn't arrive 'til after Christmas, and only for the first 10 PMers.
I think anybody who responds to this offer will have EARNED a fez.
EDIT: Only Amtrak Unlimited members need apply.
EDIT 2: Easy to talk the talk. Dirt cheap. I walk the walk.
EDIT 3: As a result of Jay sending me a date nail I now have his address, so he's getting a fez whether he likes it or not.

I can feel for you but there are much worse OTP trains. When #2 ran all the way to Florida it was notorious for being 12 HOURS down or later. It would limp into New Orleans 16 or more hours late and Amtrak put everyone on a bus to go all the way to Orlando. You should have seen the faces on the people in the sleepers when their only choice of getting to Florida was to get out of bed and get on a bus! (The L.A. based crews loved it because they got a three day paid layover in New Orleans compliments of the UP and Amtrak.) You would go ballistic if you called for an ETA and Julie told you #2 was 12 hours AND 15-20 minutes late.I take 194 two to three times per month from NYP to PVD. Not making a connection at either place. Meaning my trip is NY to PVD. I know that with travel things happen and I can forgive this sort of lateness once in a while but this train has never been on time. At least I'm not stuck sitting on the train. As I write this I'm at NY Penn. People watching. I guess I'm a little OCD and when a train is supposed to leave at 5 it should leave at 5. I'm willing to give 15/20 mins leeway.

One can buy Fez hats in a variety of colours (colors, as you guys say..)

Right! I may just have to get one or 2 for the "hat fleet." Of course all they need now is an Amtrak logo across the front. That could make a nice "21st Century" next generation Conductors Hat

Isn't dealing in Fezzes illegal in most States these days?
