American Models offers the first new S Guage complete Train Set since the demise of the A.C. Gilbert Company.

This set is comprised of a Amtrak F40PH and 4 Superliner Cars in either Phase II or III depending on what you purchase.

My question is, has anyone ever seen this set up close or purchased one?

I know S Scale is not that popular but I was thinking that although I prefer single level equipment, this set would look awfully good under the X-mas tree. The pictures on the website look good, but for the price I'd like to hear other peoples impressions first.

Thanks

Here's a pic for those who haven't seen it.

How big is S gauge? Is it as big as G scale (it looks like it by the picture)? I have tried to find Amtrak cars for my g scale railroad but could never find any. Maybe I'll switch over to S... B)

Go HO, you'll have the biggest variety of equipment.

And the equipment will be prototypical compared to whats offered in larger scales plus a lot cheaper in price. It will still look good under your Christmas tree!

S Scale has actually been called the "perfect" size or gauge.

The only issue is the availability of equipment. I would love to see all the Walther's HO Offerings (Viewliners, Heritage, Horizon, etc.) in S Scale but the market isn't there. But I do collect both HO and S. For a new modeler I would recommend HO but this set would be perfect for under the X-mas tree.

The above mentioned set supposedly looks real good and runs well. As for size a best way to describe it would be smaller than Lionel ("O" Gauge) and larger than HO.

Regardless, I'm gonna go ahead and purchase this set. I think it will make a nice addition to my Amtrak collection.
