My hope is that all members will use this forum to respond to ongoing planning, polls, as well as to ask any questions or to present ideas for the gathering of Amtrak Unlimited members as proposed originally by Had8ley.

Since this will be a gathering of members, guests will not be able to vote in polls or to respond to posts. If you are a guest and are at all interested, I would urge you to join our forum. It only takes a few minutes, your email address is kept private at all times, and we definitely do not sell email addresses. Anthony and I get way too much spam ourselves, so we would never dream of subjecting our members to more than they are already getting. If anyone is having trouble joining up, please make a post in our Site Improvements forum with a few details and I'll try to help you out or give you a way to contact me for additional assistance.

Again, all members are invited to participate in helping to plan this get together, even if you don't think that you personally can attend. Good ideas can come from anywhere and anyone, so don't hesitate to jump in if you have an idea. We want to make this the best gathering possible. :)
Alan,

Take care and take trains!

Alan,
If I remember correctly MARTA had an all day week-end pass good to ride until you ran out of time. If I'm not mistaken it was very reasonable; say 5 or 6 dollars. A trip up to Great Lakes or further north and maybe a journey out to LaGrange would let us see some Amtrak trains as we roll along; timing would be of the essence here. I've always been fascinated by the way they juggle the stack trains and manifest freights around the little four car MARTA scoots. Of course they have four main line tracks to do it on also.

I'm guessing that you mean METRA, as I can't imagine how having a pass for Atlanta's subway system (MARTA) would be of much use to us in Chicago.

But yes, if indeed Chicago is chosen, METRA does offer a weekend pass for unlimited riding for $5 the last time I checked.

Have not been on here much at all but this topic caught my interest. Well to get some interest it might be called " The Amtrak Fest" If Amtraks PR people were informed of a gathering of "THOUSANDS" of Amtrak minded people they might get involved and could turn this thing into an event:-) Like the mooning of Amtrak in California :-) Back to real life.....Chicago would be my pick, the beginning and ending of soo many trains, great station, easier for western and midwestern travelers to get to without multiple trains to catch.Eastern people could get one train and end up in Chicago town....just a few not thought out thoughts:-)

Fall season works better with me and I would prefer Chicago because of major hub center for Amtrak. It would be a good start for annual (or bi-annual) Amtrak gatherings.
Entire length in segments- Southwest Chief (LSV-LAX & CHI-LSV), Pacific Surfliner (SLO-LAX & LAX-SAN) & San Joaquin (Oakland stub)
Entire length, end to end- Lake Shore Limited (Boston stub) (11/09), Downeaster (11/09) & Coast Starlight (10/11)
Partial- California Zephyr (SLC-EMY), Hiawatha, Cascades (SEA-PDX) & Acela (BOS-PVD)

Or maybe a different location for each meeting?
Until The NO-Jax gets running I'll be at a disadvantage being from Tampa!

You might have a chance next year. Last winter we were voting on which location we would like to go. Some posters mentioned that we suggested to do in three zones- midwest (Chicago 2007), west (LA 2008), and then east for next year. Later this winter, we will vote on when and location, just like we did before we came up LA.

Option B: On Track On Line usually does the Trainfest.
Entire length in segments- Southwest Chief (LSV-LAX & CHI-LSV), Pacific Surfliner (SLO-LAX & LAX-SAN) & San Joaquin (Oakland stub)
Entire length, end to end- Lake Shore Limited (Boston stub) (11/09), Downeaster (11/09) & Coast Starlight (10/11)
Partial- California Zephyr (SLC-EMY), Hiawatha, Cascades (SEA-PDX) & Acela (BOS-PVD)
