Anthony,
I noticed that the new "Travelouges" board has the option of adding a poll. Will the other two boards have that option too?

Sorry, I didn't mean to add that option. I need to look a bit at the poll feature before allowing it.

Anthony,

I rather suspect that the reason that my count vanished is due to the following. When I noticed that the Amtrak main forum had vanished, but the Improvements and Amtrak Troubles were still there, I went to post a note in the Improvements forum. It seemed to respond properly right up until I hit the sumbit button, then all H**l broke loose. So that may well have lead to my count being trashed.

That said, as a computer guru, I know all about the fact that Internet Explorer cashes the pages you visit. So I just turned on my laptop, which I was using on Thursday morning at my client. Stayed off-line and used the history function to pull up the pages that I visited on Thursday prior to the big crash. The highest count that I can find for myself is from 7:57am that morning, when I stood at 816 total posts. So if you like, you could add that total to my current account.
Alan,

Take care and take trains!

I really like the new forums. Though the circumstances that caused the board to need replacing are unfortunate (that server crash sounds like no fun) this new board is very nice. Keep up the great work!

Also, an idea about restoring the old users and posts... perhaps Invision's Conversion Service would be able to do it? It costs $50, but I'd be happy to pitch in towards the cost, and I think other users probably would too (maybe using PayPal). After all you guys have a great site and a loyal following.

Thanks again!

Thanks mkincaid - but I really doubt that a convertor would be able to get them back. The index files are gone and without those, the board wouldn't know where the postings are or what they are. I'd need to somehow take a shot at rebuilding the index files with some sort of program or script - only then could a convertor of sorts be able to get them merged. Most likely what will happen is, when I am able to get the posts back, I'll set it up on a read-only board so that people can go back and view the old posts. That would be a lot easier than trying to merge them with this board.

Thanks for your support.

Anthony,
Why are the other two topics on the "Site Improvement Board" closed. I don't need to reply to any of them, but was there a reason to close them?

You'd have to ask the person who closed them - I didn't.

Amfleet, I'm pretty sure that I didn't. Of course I could be wrong, since I'm still getting used to this board. But I don't believe that I closed them, in fact I haven't even really looked at that function. :)

No matter now, they're back open. Probably was just a simple mistake. I was just worried that they might have been closed for something that I said in one of the threads.

Ok, now I've got a question. Tristan, how did you manage to edit this post in the future? You placed the original post on the board at 4:09pm today the 26th, yet you managed to edit it at 8:15pm today. At present it's only 4:55pm.

Can you also predict if Amtrak will be fully funded this year? Now that would really be neat. :)

All my times are showing up fine, so it seems to be a user-specific issue: check both the time zone AND the Daylight Savings box under Your Control Panel (Board Settings). The old forum had just a time zone setting, but not a Daylight Savings box, as I remember, but if you have the right zone here and don't have DST enabled you'll still be an hour off. Also keep in mind that the default time zone right now is Pacific — convenient for me since that's my zone, but I take it most of y'all are in more easterly locales, so adjust accordingly.

Mkincaid,

Actually I had my time zone and daylight savings set within 10 minutes of joining the new board. All of my times, and those of other posters are showing up correct for me.

The problem with Tristan's post about his friend, is the fact that he made the original post at 4:09 pm EST (at least for me). He then edited the post sometime before 4:55 pm EST on the same day, which is when I posted my question to him. However when I view that post which still displays the 4:09 pm time at the top, at the bottom of that post where it says that he edited the post it tells me that he did it at 8:15pm almost 4 hours later. Even though I was able to view the edit of the post within 40 minutes of his original post, the board told me that he had made that edit 4 hours later than his original post.

So to recap, if the times on the board are correct, this means that I was reading Tristan's edit 3 hours and 20 minutes before he actually made it.

Well I kinda would like to agree with you but it was way before 4 PM when I posted both of these, in any US time zone. And I live in ALX so that's EST.
